Duluth is a cross-country skiing mecca. Few areas in the country (or the world, for that matter) enjoy such a high density of ski trails or the extended wintery weather that we do. For thousands of years explorers have used the walking stick as a third leg when the going gets tough. But here in Duluth, one might say the going stays tough. A Recreational Sports Outdoor Program (RSOP) event titled "Walk with Your Hand" drew many adventurous individuals to the Sports and Health Center at UMD as instructors showed interested outdoor enthusiasts how to carve walking sticks from large chunks of Diamond willow trees.… Post the First Comment

Viewing the Beargrease dogsled marathon from a heated helicopter was a real treat. We were able to chase down the competitors we had watched leave the chutes only 20 minutes prior. After stretching the headset over my cartoonishly large head, I was able to communicate swimmingly with our pilot.… Post the First Comment
