Unfortunately, the fun would end Saturday in front of 1,200 fans at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul with 3-0 loss to the defending NCAA Division II Central Region champions, and this year's No. 1 ranked team in the nation Concordia- St. Paul. This was the fifth time these two teams have faced each other in a "Sweet 16" matchup with UMD winning two of those matches. Lakatos and Wyffels would lead the offense with Lakatos pounding out 10 kills and Wyffels adding nine.
Intheir final games as Bulldogs, Gangelhoff put up 29 set assists and fellow senior Clairmont added a pair of block assists and four kills.
"Getting this far in the tournament didn't seem reachable two months ago, but these girls worked hard and improved," said Boos.
The Bulldogs were very young this year and have a lot to look forward to next season. However, Wyffels will be leaving the team early because she is graduating this year, so that will be another gap the team needs to fill.
"Next year will be another step in the transition we have a lot of talent, but we'll still have a lot of inexperienced players with only one senior on next years team," said Boos. "I don't know what to expect, so all springs we'll be taking steps to get better."
UMD has made it to the national tournament in all seven years Boos has been the head coach and will be hoping their youth can lead them even further next season.
