Men's Basketball

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game between UMD and Bemidji was closer than it seemed it would be from the onset of the game, with the Bulldogs leading by 16 going into halftime. The 46-30 lead would be diminished in the second half with the Beavers getting the lead down to a reasonable 8 points. UMD would recover however, and led by junior Jordan Schade with 12 points cruised to an 87-79 victory. The Dogs will take on Southwest Minnesota State Friday at home; the game is set to tip off at 8 p.m.

Women's Basketball

Part one of the double header with the Bemidji Beavers also ended in UMD's favor, as the women dominated in their game winning by a solid margin 70-56. The women showed no let up from beginning to end, with a 10-point lead at halftime. Leading UMD in this impressive victory was junior Jehri Booker with 16 points. This win continued a four-game win streak for the team, whICH looks to continue it this weekend against Southwest Minnesota State on Friday.

Track

Both the men's and women's track teams had great performances this weekend who traveled just across the bridge to compete in the Superior Blizzard Open. The women started off well with the sophomore Hines sisters, Bridget and Whitney, finishing first and second in the 5000-meter run. Another who showed her quickness was senior Kristen Haak, who set a school and meet record in the 300. With many of the field events had top finishers as well, with seniors Ally Hartje, Traci Pottinger and sophomore Angela Bode all winning their respective jumps.

On the men's side, winners included senior Eric Atkinson in the 5000, sophomore Brian Ott in the 300, sophomore Dillon Johnston in the 800 and junior Forrest Randall in the 200. The men also competed well in the field events, winning the triple jump and weight toss: Adam Schneider won in his first meet as a freshman in the jump with senior Tom Soldner winning the toss. Next up for the track team is an Invitational at University of Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday.
