Obama deservant of Nobel Peace prize

In response to the article "Where is the peace? The Nobel Peace Prize Has Become A Mockery."
The article, "Where is the Peace," published in the Statesman last week was simply a misguided opinion. I respect the right to disagree with selection of President Obama for the Nobel peace prize, but the author's justifications to the contrary are fairly weak.
The author says, "The Nobel Peace Prize is an award for an accomplishment, not something you give to someone in hopes that they will eventually achieve something." Is this true? Alfred Nobel, the man the award was created by, stated, "during the preceding year [awardees'] shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses." Promotion, in this case, refers to a current or future event. The author's assumptions are untrue, as the committee members who selected him for this award are well aware.
The author then goes on to say president Obama has made no achievements regarding world peace. Barack Obama spent nearly two years on the campaign trail, giving hope and confidence to many who had none, and convinced the world he would not repeat the countless mistakes of the Bush administration. The instant he was elected, the entire world took a sigh of relief. Since Obama has been president, he has managed to stabilize the economy and has taken on the biggest challenge of any president in the last fifty years: healthcare reform. These initiatives do indeed meet Nobel's criteria.
Thus far, Obama's only opposition has been the Republican minority, who oppose everything he says, and openly state they hope he fails. No statement could be more un-American. These people, like the author, are the same who still deny global climate change. Although a few scientists may question the cause of global climate change, the vast majority have reached a conclusion. In fact, this year 3,146 earth scientist from around the globe overwhelmingly agreed this is a human caused phenomenon. To continually deny science is unproductive and harmful.
Most people criticizing Obama's selection for this award are the same people who elected the worst president in US history. This award is not only to Obama, but to all of America, and is reason for all of us to be proud. With Obama at the helm, the world is looking to us to lead the charge in establishing global peace. But in the end, these are all opinions. The only true fact that cannot be argued is that Barack Obama was selected as the winner of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. Love it or hate it, deal with it.

How can you take promotion out of context here and say it refers to a current or future event? It clearly states, "During the PRECEDING year, [awardees] shall have DONE the most or the BEST work. (Continued…)

For someone set out to argue the contrary, your arguments are also quite misguided. I can say with 100% certainty that Obama has NOT convinced the "entire world" that he will not make the same mistakes as the Bush administration. (Continued…)

If your aim was to convince everyone that you're on the more educated side of this issue, you've failed miserably! The commments within your rebuttal are boldly exaggrated generalizationations of the opinion of everyone in the entire world. (Continued…)

First of all, Sam, its not only "Republicans" as you so enjoy targeting that are saying he isn't deserving of the prize. There are plenty of other people with different political views sharing this opinion. (Continued…)
