According to university policy, Associate Professor Randy Hyman should have been entitled to three months notice prior to his reassignment from vice chancellor for Academic Support and Student Life on Sept. 1, 2009.
According to Hyman, that notification came no earlier than July 10, which would mean the policy was not followed. Speaking for the administration, Director of Human Resources Judith Karon said they followed policy by notifying him over five months in advance in a letter, placing that the date of notification some time in March. Hyman said he did not receive a letter from the administration in March either regarding that his reassignment or any other matter.
Neither Hyman nor the administration could substantiate their claims since the letters are of personal nature and not open to the public. The Statesman has filed an open records request to verify the correct date of notification.

2 a : a definite course or method of action selected from among alternatives and in light of given conditions to guide and determine present and future decisions b : a high-level overall plan embracing the general goals and acceptable procedures especially of a governmental body
