RA application process begins

As a residence advisor, or an RA, on-campus room and board is completely paid for. Being an RA can offer other benefits as well. It is a resume builder and a great way to gain leaderships skills.
As an RA, you are responsible to plan activities for the students on your floor and make rounds. RAs are required to do an activity for their floor once a week to support their residents in some way. These activities could be anything from stuffing their mailboxes with an inspirational note or planning a yoga night.
Making "rounds" is simply a 15 to 30 minute process each night to make sure the students are staying out of trouble. If there is any trouble, which there usually isn't, the university police are always on call.
Junior apartment RA Abhi Devireddy said, "If you like interacting with people it won't seem like a job."
There are many perks to the job, but it is pertinent that RAs maintain a 2.5 G.P.A.
"This is a job where you are expected to take on the responsibilities of others, so it is important that our RAs are being responsible for themselves as well, like keeping up their grades," said Josh Buck, Residence Hall Area Director.
Because being an RA and a student can be difficult to balance, RAs are not allowed to hold any other jobs. The RA position is considered to be a full-time position.
"Time management is the most difficult part. It seems like all your problems with your job happen the day before a test or at the most inconvenient time. You need to be very consistent with taking care of your school work," sophomore Ben Ruter said.
As an RA, you are not concerned with just your personal life. It is up to you to shed positive light on your leadership position.
