The 52 annual Grammy awards took place on Sunday, and it was an affair dominated by recording artists Beyonce and Taylor Swift.

Beyonce won a record-breaking six awards as a female artist and was also nominated 10 times. But her time spent on stage wasn't limited to accepting awards, she silenced any doubters in the crowd by putting on a show that will be put down as one of the better performances to ever take place at the Grammys.

She blended her song "If I Were a Boy" with the Alanis Morisette song "You Oughta Know," and made a spectacle by being escorted on stage by a SWAT team entourage.

Swift also took home four Grammys, including "Album of The Year" for her album, "Fearless."

The men weren't excluded completely this year with Kings of Leon winning multiple awards, including "Record of The Year."

Female artists were showcased all throughout the show as the highlights included standout performances by Pink, Lady Gaga, Mary J. Blige, and of course, Beyonce and Taylor Swift.

The night definitely found itself revolving around the obscure, which is to be expected when Lady Gaga is present. The most shocking occurrence was when Pink walked onto stage dressed like Princess Leia, but things got weird when she dropped the Jedi robe and revealed her full-body thong suit. Viewers went cross-eyed when she put on her own version of Cirque Du Soleil by suspending herself in the air by a sheet and began spinning, all while singing.

What in the Beyonce crotch-grab is going on?

The night continued with a previously unreleased song by Michael Jackson called "Earth Song." The new track was sung by a collaboration of Usher, Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Smokey Joe Robinson and Jennifer Hudson, along with the recorded track of Jackson.

Hip-hop fans were pleased by watching Lil' Wayne joined on stage by both Eminem and Drake, although they may have been dumbfounded when they were introduced by a rambling and awkward Quentin Tarantino.

As the night concluded, a few records were broken and some thankful tears were shed, but the story of the night was the over-the-top performances. Whether it was Lady Gaga's duet with Elton John or the wild head-banging of Beyonce, this was one Grammys to remember.
