"Snowmageddon. That's what they're calling it," UMD student Sofi Tenorio said about the snow storm in Washington, D.C., last weekend. How does she know that?

Tenorio is one of five UMD students who got snowed in in D.C. over the weekend. The stranded students were all girls part of Phi Sigma Sigma and were in D.C. for their annual leadership conference.

The girls didn't expect the conference to interfere with their classes or work schedules on Monday but when they're Sunday morning flight got cancelled they were forced to rearrange plans.

According to the national weather service Washington DC got two to three feet of snow last weekend, according to the Washington Post.

"DC hasn't seen this much snow since George Washington's time," Tenorio and her sorority sister, Shannon Walsh said.

Seventeen chapters of the sorority didn't even make it to the conference because of weather delays. "Out of 120 [chapters] that were here, 90 got stuck," Tenorio said.

The scene was "a bunch of sorority girls watchinng the superbowl," Tenorio said.

Hotel conference rooms, big screen TV's and delivery pizza alleviated some of the travel misfortune.

The girls flew out Monday night and landed safely in Minneapolis. The arrival scene was all too familiar. Northern Minnesotans just can't escape snow.
