This past Friday, partiers from all over Duluth gathered at the Great Lakes Aquarium for what some people called a "rave," complete with laser lights, house and electronic music and a bar.

The event, set up by Jordan Berndt, Josh Stahnke and Ian Vincent, included DJs from around the Duluth area as well as artists from the Twin Cities, Chicago and San Francisco. With a turnout of 210 people, they said the event was successful although they didn't make any money.

"Everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves," said organizer and computer science major Josh Stahnke. As the president of a club on campus called Music and Mind, he said the event was to focus on the way music makes people feel and to use the style of music he listens to for bringing people together.

"We want to give Duluth a better outlook for the techno scene and a more positive scene," Stahnke said. "The idea is really about focusing on collective dance and less on the drinking."

Stahnke listens to a genre of music called psytrance and said he hoped the event could create awareness about this genre of music that is meant to bring people together spiritually as an alternative to mind altering drugs.

The organizers plan on putting on another event soon, possibly sometime this summer and hopefully outdoors, according to Stahnke.
