A 22-year-old male student escaped from detox Sunday after being brought there overnight when police found him passed out in the passenger seat of a parked vehicle.

According to Sgt. Tim LeGarde, officers saw that the male was passed out in the passenger seat of a car that drove by a squad car. The police followed the car until the car parked.

Once the car was parked, police approached it and determined the driver was sober. Officers attempted to wake up the male who was passed out but couldn't wake him up, LeGarde said.

Eventually, the male was brought to detox with a blood alcohol level of .285, LeGarde said. Since he was of age, no crime was committed. He was brought to detox as a medical safety precaution and was not being held for criminal charges.

According to LeGarde, the male escaped detox around 5 p.m. Sunday through an unlocked door.

"Police contacted him Sunday night and he was sober and OK," LeGarde said.

The student is facing no criminal charges, as no crime was committed, LeGarde said. The student may face possible university sanctions.
