Bulldogs race to finish in final meet

UMD men's and women's track and field teams ousted the University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS) teams last Saturday, May 1, at a home dual meet that took place on Griggs Field in James S. Molasky Stadium.
Out of the 40 total events, men's and women's combined, the Bulldogs had first place finishes in 32 of the events. The Yellowjackets only won three events, which consisted of the men's 3,000-meter run, the women's 4x100 meter relay and the women's javelin throw.
In the UMD men's track events, sophomore hurdler Brent Lundgren finished with a victorious time of 58.30, two seconds before the runner-up opponent from UWS. Freshman Robert Kostick won the 1,500-meter run by just three hundredths of a second over Yellowjacket Scott Behling. Kostick crossed the finish line with 4:13.02 while Behling, less than one step behind, came in with a time of 4:13.05.
UMD took the first, second and third spots in three events, which included the 110-meter hurdles, the 800-meter run and the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The 110-meter hurdles were led by Seth Urtel with a time of 15.77, and followed by Jimmy Warmuth and Forrest Randall, respectively. The 800-meter run was led by Aaron Gorman with a time 1:55.44 and was closely followed respectively by Robbie Jenson and Dillon Johnston. Distance runner Nick Nygaard won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:09.97, thirty seconds before runner-up teammate sophomore Tim Lasch. Jared Johnston out-ran two opponents from UWS to take home the third place spot. The men's relay team also won all three relay events, the 4x100, 4x400 and the 4x200 meter relays.
In the men's field events, UMD's Andy Heffele jumped his way to the top in the high jump with a height of 1.87 meters. Joe Deters won the long jump and the triple jump with a distance of 5.87 meters and 12.32 meters respectively. In the discus throw, Dan Loughran received a first place finish with a throwing distance of 40.39 meters. Dan Larson, Forrest Randall and Loughran finished first ,second, and third, in that order, with Larson victorious with a distance of 54.76 meters. Loughran also won the shot put with a distance of 13.37 meters.
